The new design also complements the nearby historic assets of St Peter's Church and St Petersgate.
New footpaths, signs and landmarks are intended to link Stockport's historic marketplace to the Merseyway Shopping Centre and the proposed bus interchange via the Plaza steps helping to making it easier to get around the town centre by day and by night. Imaginative lighting displays lend the space a special night-time character, boosting the area's evening economy.
The scheme delivers an ideal venue for outdoor events and is the perfect backdrop for facilities such as cafés, restaurants and pubs, open in the daytime, evening and night. St. Peter's Square is to become a vibrant, safe and sociable meeting place for the people of Stockport.
